76% Uncertain was formed in 1983 by members of two other bands; CIA and Reflex From Pain. Both of these bands had released independent 7" vinyl EPs the previous year. Early in 1984 we released our first album "Estimated Monkey Time". The song "Coffee Achievers" appeared on this album. This song was a tongue-in-cheek retort to a then-current ad campaign promoting the drinking of coffee. We toured to promote this release, hitting many cities east of the Mississippi. 1986 (?) Brought the release of "Nothing But Love Songs" - 12 songs in less than 30 minutes! Several mini-tours followed its release. We were also writing lots of new material all through this time. A line up change also happened. Mike Spadaccini was added as the third guitarist, William Knapp left to work on other musical projects, and Chip Moody took over the task of drumming. A national tour with this line-up followed. Our third album, "Hunka Hunka Burnin' Log" was released in 1989, with William back on drums. Shortly after its release, Mike left the band. Taking his place was Jeff Roberts, a longtime friend. He had been a fan, a roadie, and been to practically every show we ever did...what better person to be in the band! We played a bunch of shows and wrote some new material with this lineup, but a bad record deal put the band into a tailspin. We all decided to call it quits before the 80's ended. Some of us were in other bands after the breakup: Onion, Shyster Shyster and Flywheel, freakbaby, and The Hat City Intuitive, to name a few. We all kept in touch...some more than others...but we never thought we would play together as a band again. On September 12th,
1997, something happened to change all that. Jeff
Roberts was killed in a tragic car accident. He left behind a wife
and 3 children. In the summer of 2002, Bones, our singer, got word of a show being set up for the fall...This show would feature all the old Connecticut "Hardcore" bands. One of them was us! The show would be another benefit for Jeff's kids. As soon as we all heard about it, we were 'in'. We started practicing to get ready for the show and realized that to really make the songs from the 3rd album sound right we would need a 3rd guitarist. We asked Ed Winnick (ex SVOE, Gunk, Onion) and a long time supporter of 76 if he wanted to play. He agreed. Now Ed is a member of the band and is contributing good humor and guitar. Thanks Ed! The show was great...well attended and a lot of fun...This time though, we are not calling it quits just yet. We are planning on doing more shows and also doing some recording. Also there will be re-releases of some of our material...also some unreleased and live cuts...so please watch for these. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us through the years, anyone who ever came to a show, bought a record, a shirt or just dug us. It means a lot to all of us. Hope to see you soon at a show. |
